Job Description

Tasks

• Consult with family of deceased regarding funeral and related services
• Embalm remains
• Supervise embalmers
• Inform survivors of benefits
• Perform restorative work
• Schedule work of other staff
• Issue death notices to newspapers
• Perform cosmetic work on remains
• Supervise students in training
• Preserve, sanitize and prepare human remains for funeral services
• Maintain and order supplies
• Oversee preparation of remains
• Plan and schedule funeral services
• Co-ordinate burials and cremations
• Complete legal documentation
• Hire and direct staff
• Maintain financial records
• Prepare accounts
• Pre-arrange funerals
• Arrange for transfer of remains from place of death to funeral home
• Manage funeral home operations

Certificates, licences, memberships, and courses 

• Embalming Trade Certification
• Embalmer Licence
• Funeral Director Licence
• Membership in provincial/territorial funeral service association
• Driver's License

Security and safety

• Criminal record check
