Position Overview: The Polygon Gallery is seeking a Guest Services Supervisor to join our team. Reporting to the Head of Guest Experience, the Guest Services Supervisor leads the Guest Services staff on the sales floor, ensuring an exceptional guest experience, effective retail operations, and support for revenue goals in admissions, memberships, and retail.
Work Schedule: Typical work hours are as follows (with flexibility for special events or operational needs):
● Wednesday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday: 9:15 am – 5:15 pm
● Thursday: 12 pm – 8 pm
Key Responsibilities:
● Operations Management: Oversee day-to-day Guest Services operations, including opening, closing, staff scheduling, and training.
● Staff Leadership: Lead the hiring, training, and ongoing development of Guest Services staff. Ensure staff are informed about current exhibitions, events, and programs.
● Guest Services: Act as the primary point of contact for Guest Services inquiries, ensuring an excellent guest experience.
● Retail Sales Support: Encourage donations and drive sales to support Admissions, Membership, and Retail revenue goals.
● Administrative Support: Support the Retail Buyer with tasks such as the consignment program, Lightspeed inventory management, product tagging, and organizing sales desk operations.
● Social Media: Maintain and post updates to the Gift Shop’s Instagram account to promote products, events, and new items.
● Collaboration: Work closely with the Head of Guest Experience to discuss and implement strategic priorities for Admissions and Retail.
● Team Building: Create a positive and productive team environment through training, support, and regular feedback.
Additional Responsibilities:
● Maintain organization at the sales desk, including daily restocking and troubleshooting of POS, Blackbaud, and Moneris systems.
● Regularly meet with the Head of Guest Experience & Retail Operations to discuss operations, staffing, and training.
Qualifications:
● Education and/or professional experience in retail sales and customer experience.
● Strong customer-focused sales skills and familiarity with computerized POS and inventory systems.
● Solid communication skills and the ability to lift up to 30 pounds, with physical activity on the sales floor and in storage areas.
● Knowledge of Lightspeed, Square, and Raiser’s Edge, and an interest in contemporary art are assets.
● A proactive, flexible approach and willingness to “wear many hats” in a small office environment.
● Ability to foster a positive, productive Guest Services team.
● Patience, maturity, and keen attention to detail.
Job Details:
● Salary: $47,000 – $52,000 annually, with benefits.
● Hours: Full-time, five days a week (Wednesday to Sunday). Primarily on the sales floor, with limited administrative work before the Gallery opens (9:15-9:45 am).
● Additional Requirements: Flexibility to work Thursday evenings, special events, offsite activities, and peak holiday periods. Please note, time off requests cannot be accommodated in December, but a paid week off in January will be provided.
