Job Description

We are looking for a passionate and competitive hospitality professional to join our team as a General Manager. As the focal point of our new and exciting project in Surrey Central, you will help shape what the Nemesis experience looks and feels like in a brand new space, team and community. This role is for those who understand what leadership truly means and are willing and proactive at acquiring the skills, knowledge and experience to drive themselves, their team and their space forward.

Surrounded by some of the industry’s best coffee professionals, chefs, and operators, this role is designed for someone who wants to take what they already know about leadership and great hospitality and broaden that understanding, utilizing the freshness of a brand new space to aim as high as possible. With a dynamic programme across coffee, pastry, brunch and more, we really do see ourselves as a place for people to level up where they're at and begin a strong and prosperous career.

About Us:

Nemesis is a hospitality driven, specialty coffee company composed of highly dedicated baristas, chefs and creatives. We utilize our pursuit of passion, and the spaces we explore them in, as a catalyst to build community and create culture.

We have cultivated a working environment that encourages and empowers all team members to constantly challenge their own status quo; to broaden existing skills, deepen knowledge and contribute in new and exciting ways as we strive forward. As a team, we want to nurture this environment by bringing in people who share our passions and have a genuine want to push the boundaries in all aspects of the business alongside us.

Candidate Qualities:

Humility and Respect

You understand that true leadership is service, not authority. That you work for your team and not the other way around; that to admit what you don't know and lean on and value the skill and knowledge of others is a strength, not a weakness. Respect is always earned.

Self Awareness and Empathy

You demonstrate an acute awareness of the point of view and experience of other people, and regularly reflect on your own actions and their impact on others. You seek constant feedback and use it to grow, make informed decisions and provide appropriate support.

Optimism and Responsibility

You possess a naturally positive mindset, focusing on solutions, not just problems. When facing challenges you keep the mood constructive and help your team stay focused on what can be done rather than what can’t. You lead by example in taking responsibility for outcomes.

Judgement and Common Sense

You have the maturity and experience to make thoughtful, informed decisions under pressure. Maintaining an eye on the bigger picture and applying practical and simple solutions to complex situations without overthinking. You prioritise the well-being of your team, our company, and our guests.

Growth and Development

You possess the courage and awareness to constantly challenge the status quo of your store, team and experience to empower continued growth and ultimately, tear down what it is you do best to replace it with something infinitely better.

The Ideal Candidate:

-Leads with a clear vision and purpose, inspiring and mentoring a passionate front of house team
-Cultivates a positive work culture and building a high-performing team through effective hiring, training, and mentorship.
-Drives operational excellence by bringing consistency to daily, weekly and monthly tasks while constantly seeking ways to streamline existing systems and processes without sacrificing quality
-2+ years of restaurant, or cafe management experience in a similar role
-Understands and respects what it takes to run, maintain and grow a business, overseeing budgets, revenue generation, forecasting and P&L analysis
-Experienced with scheduling, labour analysis, inventory management, and control of cost of goods

Requirements:

  • Food Safe Level 1
  • Serving It Right
  • Work Permit

About Nemesis Coffee | Dope Bakehouse

Nemesis is a hospitality driven, specialty coffee company composed of highly dedicated baristas, chefs, and creatives. We utilise our pursuits of passion, and the spaces we explore them in as our catalyst to build community and create culture.

Created from humble beginnings, Nemesis set out with a simple yet daring vision: to re-imagine and redefine the meaning of coffee culture in Vancouver and beyond by harmoniously intertwining hospitality, specialty coffee, culinary excellence, design and the arts.

The word “Nemesis” perfectly captures our essence, our against the grain mentality, our need to express individuality, and our constant hunger to push the boundaries of coffee culture.

We wanted to take the power out of the word and give it new meaning; to remove any negative connotations and turn it into something that is authentically us. The inverted heart was a creation derived from love, the deep appreciation for our community, and our want to define our purpose within them. A symbol we can make with our hands, a gesture that can be expressed universally to embody these sentiments.
