Position Summary:
The Barback plays a crucial support role to the Bartenders, ensuring the smooth and efficient operation of the bar. This position is responsible for maintaining stock levels, preparing garnishes, cleaning and organizing the bar area, and assisting bartenders with various tasks. The ideal candidate is a hardworking team player with a strong work ethic, excellent organizational skills, and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment.
Responsibilities:
Stocking and Restocking:
Ensure all necessary beverages (liquor, beer, wine, mixers), glassware, ice, and bar supplies are adequately stocked before, during, and after service.
Monitor inventory levels and communicate needs to the Bartenders or management.
Receive and organize deliveries, ensuring proper storage.
Rotate stock to ensure freshness and minimize waste.
Preparation and Maintenance:
Prepare garnishes (e.g., slicing fruit, olives) as needed.
Ensure an ample supply of clean glassware is available for the bartenders.
Maintain ice levels in ice bins throughout service.
Change kegs and restock beer coolers as required.
Prepare basic drink ingredients (e.g., simple syrup, juice blends) as directed.
Bar Area Cleanliness and Organization:
Maintain a clean and organized bar area, including wiping down counters, spills, and equipment.
Wash and polish glassware.
Empty trash and recycling bins regularly.
Sweep and mop floors as needed.
Ensure the back bar and storage areas are tidy and well-organized.
Assisting Bartenders:
Retrieve bottles and supplies for bartenders as requested.
Assist with basic drink preparation tasks when needed and as directed.
Clear empty glasses and bottles from the bar top and tables.
Run food orders to tables when necessary.
Respond to bartender requests promptly and efficiently.
Adherence to Standards:
Follow all health, safety, and sanitation guidelines.
Adhere to all company policies and procedures.
Maintain a professional appearance and demeanor at all times.
Other Duties:
Assist with opening and closing duties as assigned.
Perform other duties as requested by the Bartenders or management.
Qualifications:
Previous experience as a barback or in a similar fast-paced hospitality environment is preferred but not always required.
Strong work ethic and a proactive attitude.
Excellent organizational and time management skills.
Ability to work efficiently and calmly under pressure.
Ability to follow instructions and work as part of a team.
Good communication skills.
Physical stamina to lift and carry heavy items (e.g., cases of beverages, kegs) and stand for extended periods.
Knowledge of basic bar terminology and operations is an asset.
Smart Serve certification (or willingness to obtain it) is required in Ontario.
Must be of legal drinking age in Ontario.
